I think what is many people misinterprete about the modern woman's sexual power is that it comes to define them solely. I honestly think this comes from a society so formed by consumerism, where women are defined by advertissments as well... objects, but this ties in with a twisted vision of feminism where it's come to symbolise a sexual empowrement, although it's little more than degradement. What's so wonderful about Hopkins is that she is in control, and yet she's intelligent, confidant, funny and a appealing. She's truly my vision of the modern woman, and it's ironic this vision even seems avant-garde compared to some of the more notable icons of womanhood today. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Design for Living also happens to be one of my favourite Lubitsch. It's my favourite Hopkins and makes me regreat March didn't do more comedy (he's also great in Nothing Sacred).</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/7203516055969066336/comments/default/1781351895143911217'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/7203516055969066336/comments/default/1781351895143911217'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/03/miriam-hopkins-pre-code-menage-trois.html?showComment=1205337240000#c1781351895143911217' title=''/><author><name>houseofmirthandmovies</name><uri>http://houseofmirthandmovies.wordpress.com/</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/03/miriam-hopkins-pre-code-menage-trois.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026901.post-7203516055969066336' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/posts/default/7203516055969066336' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
