I think he was a fantastic actor. And I don't think anyone has noted what I believe was his best performance, in Woody Allen's 1992 classic, Husband's and Wives, where he played the marvelous Judy Davis' husband. What's so great is that he seems so nice and easy to relate to but as the film progresses shows himself to be a selfish manipulative bastard who wants a dumb blond for the bedroom and a smart chic mate at cocktail parties. I still laugh when I think of scene where Allen's character asks him what he could be thinking leaving his wife for an Arobics instructor. Pollack pulls him aside and tells him that he wants a woman who "will dig her nails into my back when I fuck her." It's sleazy, but it's just about every guy. To everyone who will listen, I say go back to this Woody gem.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/4364382946733434664/comments/default/7403999442010667492'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/4364382946733434664/comments/default/7403999442010667492'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/05/sydney-pollack-1934-2008-good-director.html?showComment=1213422660000#c7403999442010667492' title=''/><author><name>joe joe</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/09490076604993120191</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/05/sydney-pollack-1934-2008-good-director.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026901.post-4364382946733434664' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/posts/default/4364382946733434664' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
