Didn't care much for No country or for zodiac, which I thought was bland and whose murders were ineffective, at best, confusing at worst. When I got done with No Country I thought, wow I've never seen a movie with so many murders in it that was so utterly uninvolving--people we didn't care about got blown away left and right and I yawned, looked at my watch in the dimness trying to figure out how much more time was left to watch automaton Javier Bardem keep coming and coming at people I didn't feel like I'd gotten to know much about. When he offed the wife at the end, I just thought, that's funny, but I didn't care about it. The only good things about Zodiac were Mark Rufalo and Chloe Sevigne, but the former was merely a side character and the latter hardly got to say anything before she was removed from the screen. Jake Gyllenhal, who was supposed to seem all obsessed just came across as vague and recessive. I wish I could figure out why this lackluster horror pic was on so many best-of lists. Just another example of how Fincher is all atmosphere, utterly humorless and convinced his wallowing conventionality (especially in a lousy film like the much over rated Seven) is full of ideas, whatever those might be.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/3110716122464141299/comments/default/415938786910808306'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/3110716122464141299/comments/default/415938786910808306'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/01/2007-look-back-in-old-texas-rearview.html?showComment=1201597620000#c415938786910808306' title=''/><author><name>vanveen</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://blog.brightlightsfilm.com/2008/01/2007-look-back-in-old-texas-rearview.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026901.post-3110716122464141299' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/30026901/posts/default/3110716122464141299' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
