Shatner Interprets Palin

Oh, the power of *acting*. To start with apparent nonsense and carry it into the realm of beauty and truth. Take it away, Mr. Shatner.

I can never understand how people can say Shatner isn't a great actor. He's great in the deliciously florid way Ian McKellan or Orson Welles is great, not in the self-importantly sober way Patrick Stewart and Laurence Olivier are great, though they're great too... in that way (cue bongos). That's why he and Spock are one of the great teams of pop culture... Spock is in the Stewart camp, which is why I could never dig the Next Generation.

I just gotta say - Shatner is kind of funny, but Sarah Palin is a rat's red ass and I'll be happy when she's finally, finally last year's news.

The thing about Shatner is that his own personality dominates whatever role he plays. He's the antithesis of a "character actor" (who has no celebrity/public personality beyond the roles s/he plays).

James Tiberius Kirk, T.J. Hooker, Denny Crane -- they're all essentially Shatner. His personality is just so large, no role can contain it.

... or rather, he lets no role contain it.
